This post is about how to make honey garlic chicken
Doordash is a problem in my life. It is such an easy go to when I am hungry and there are so many options. The problem is, it is so! expensive.
To lessen the chance of me eating Doordash every day of the week, I started creating go-to meals. These are meals that take less than an hour to make and require minimal steps and ingredients. They also include protein, carbs, and vegetables to make it healthy and filling.
Most of the recipes I have create involve salmon because it is a light and easy protein. But a person can only eat so much salmon before they need a break. That is why I decided to start adding chicken to the mix.
Here is how to make honey garlic chicken
Ingredients
- Chicken breasts: for this recipe you can use any chicken you like. However, I prefer chicken breasts. I usually do about one chicken breast per person and that seems to be the perfect amount.
- Olive oil: you also can use any preferred oil for this recipe. I like olive oil for its health benefits and it doesn’t have a strong taste. The olive oil helps to moisten the chicken and create a glaze with the honey.
- Honey: any honey works. Local honey is best for allergy benefits and it supports a small business. Because we use a lot of honey in my house, we used Costco honey.
- Garlic: Garlic cloves are best for flavor. But you can also replace this with a tablespoon of garlic powder.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Place 1/4 cup of honey in a microwave-safe bowl. Then microwave for 30 seconds or until smooth. This step can be optional, but it helps the honey to combine with other ingredients and spread easily over the chicken.
- Crush or mince garlic and add to the honey mixture.
- Add in oil of choice and salt & pepper to the mixture. Stir to combine.
- Place defrosted chicken into an oven-safe pan.
- Pour the honey mixture of chicken and coat any chicken that the mixture did not reach.
- Place the chicken in the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
- Flip chicken and recoat. Then bake for another 20 -25 minutes. Or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees.
Side dish ideas
This dish pairs great with so many things.
Rice is a great option for a low-carb meal. Or for something cozy, mashed potatoes are another great option. Mashed potatoes are a go to for us since the chicken already takes a bit to make.
We also love to add vegetables to our dinners. I can’t eat raw vegetables, so dinner is a great time to eat them because I have time to cook or roast vegetables. Two vegetable side dishes we love are garlic lemon green beans or roasted brussel sprouts.
Honey garlic chicken is a great weeknight dinner
What makes this recipe a great weeknight go to is that it is quick and easy. It requires little ingredients and only 5 minutes of prep time. The cooking time takes the longest, but is well worth it for this cozy dish.
