Now that I have been working from home for a year, I have finally set up my perfect cozy desk.
For the longest time, I didn’t know what to include with my desk. There are so many things out there for your desk. And most of it was designed around jobs that use a lot of paper, which is not what I needed. I didn’t know how I was going to use my desk or how often. But one thing I knew, I wanted to be a cozy space.
Over the last few months, I have changed my desk layout countless times. I even spent a day moving my office around so I could create the perfect cozy desk setup. Everything kept feeling wrong until I joined virtual coworking sessions,
Joining these sessions gave me so many ideas for my desk. Almost every person had some sort of cozy setup that I could do myself. I created a list of what parts of their desks I loved and now I finally have created my own desk that I love to be at.
Here is my perfect cozy desk setup
My desk furniture
Desk
Like most things I own, my desk is from a thrift store. I was able to find the desk with a matching bookshelf for $90! It was such a steal I had to get it. While it is not a standing desk, I still love it and its functionality. It is smaller so I can place it in my guest room and still have plenty of space.
I tried looking for it online. The closest I found was this Amazon desk. It doesn’t come in grey wood, but it has a similar build and size.
Chair
For the longest time, I was using an old dining room chair. Even though it is an affordable option, I don’t recommend it unless you want your back to hurt.
Looking for an office chair can be overwhelming with all the options. So when looking for a chair I considered how I sat. This made the most sense since I wanted to be comfortable. I love to sit with my legs crossed so I needed a chair that was big enough for that.
This is when the viral TikTok chair came around. So of course I got it because it was designed for how I sit and I love it. The chair comes in several colors and is super comfy. I easily can spend all day in it. Even my cats love to nap on it.
\It also now comes with wheels which makes it even better. I wish I had waited a few more months to get the wheel option, as the original can be hard to move due to the size and weight.
Monitor stand
My desk doesn’t have much space because of its size. So I bought this monitor stand to give me a little more space.
What I love most about this monitor stand is that it is adjustable. I can easily make it fit the length of my desk. Or turn in 90 degrees to help see my laptop screen better.
Phone stand
When I first bought this stand, it was for my iPad. But it has also made a great place to put my phone.
It is a great quality and is adjustable. It has helped me stay off my phone less because it is in its ‘home.’
Desk technology
Keyboard
I started participating in virtual coworking sessions a few weeks ago. I love these sessions because they help me get so much done.
But they have also introduced me to all sorts of desk setups. And one thing everyone has is a mechanical keyboard.
After feeling left out, I decided to buy myself one. I bought the EPOMAKER RT100 and have loved it.
Something about the key sounds makes my workday much more fun. It also has given my desk a cozy vibe.
I loved this keyboard so much that I wrote a review about it here.
Mouse
I am not someone who has ever cared about ergonomic tech. That is until I started sitting at a desk all day.
Because I wasn’t sure how I would feel using ergonomic tech, I started simply with this mouse. It is a great affordable option for those who also want to test ergonomics.
This mouse took a moment to get used to, but I have loved using it. It has been so much easier getting things done. And my wrists do not hurt by the end of the week (shocker!)
USB hub
This little USB hub is a lifesaver.
I use laptops for both work and school. Because of this, there isn’t much space to plug other things in.
Plug all your extras, such as monitors or webcame into the hub. Then simply plug the hub into your laptop!
It is so nice to switch between two laptops. And it is much quicker to set up your laptop each time you need it at your desk.
Cozy desk decorations
Timer
Using the Pomodoro method helps me get so much done. For the longest time I was using YouTube timers or apps, but it still was causing me to get distracted.
This little timer has helped me focus so much. I also love how cute it is!
Desk Mat
A desk mat was something I never thought I needed. But it has added so much to my space.
It adds a cute pop of color to my desk and keeps all my things from moving around.
My current desk mat is from the Target Dollar Spot. I was about to purchase one when I found it for $5!
However you can still get the one I was originally going to purchase here.
Other Desk items I love
Laptop stand
Before I bought my monitor stand, I used this laptop stand.
I love how easy it was to put together. And it is a great quality!
Curtain lights
Curtain lights make for such a cozy feeling, especially on cloudy days.
Mine were placed on the window behind my desk. Sadly, they have died after lots of use. But I have purchased more here.
Cozy blankets
I am usually a cold person. It doesn’t help that my desk is also over the AC.
These are my favorite blankets that I have had for years. They have a bigger price tag, but they are well worth it. They have lasted me years and don’t snag when my cats use them. If you are willing to wait, these usually go one sale during the holiday season.
It is so easy to create the perfect cozy desk setup
I am so glad I spent the time and money to create a desk space I love. I used to struggle to sit at my desk and get anything done. So instead I would sit on the couch or somewhere else. It would lead to so many distractions! Now that I am in a space I love, I get so much work done.
